Notes from the Winemaker

Spring 2011

2011 is shaping up to be an incredible year for us. After a challenging harvest last fall, we are happy with the outcome of the wines from 2010. Cool vintages leave nice acidity and less of the pruny overripe flavors that can result from a hot vintage.

This year we will be releasing many of our 2008 red wines. 2008 resulted in about a 30% decrease in overall fruit. The result was more concentrated fruit flavors and very balanced wines.

In February we released the 75 case 2008 Merlot as well as the 75 case Odd Man Out. Both of these wines, although small in case production, are clear examples of what the year provided for us.

In early May we are extra excited to release a brand new wine in our portfolio. For many years I have planned on producing a wine with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah combined together. This year provided me with the best option to do our first wine called Double Vision, a 50-50% blend of the two grapes. I hope everyone will enjoy this wine as much as I enjoyed making it!

We decided to throw a summer solstice party release in June to showcase the 2010 Sauvignon Blanc. The increasing popularity of this wine makes it a special occasion worth having. It should be a great day to sip Sauvignon Blanc in the sunshine- if she decides to show up!
